Does an online divorce follow a different divorce procedure?

The divorce procedure can be a quick and easy process to follow yourself without the help of a solicitor, but only if you understand what is expected of you first.

Regardless of how you decide to handle your divorce, whether you handle it yourself or hire a solicitor to manage your divorce, the actual process of obtaining a divorce is exactly the same.

People assume that when using an online divorce provider, they will follow a different process, but this is actually untrue.

Divorce procedure

The divorce process is exactly the same for both online and high street solicitors. They both have to follow the exact same process to be able to grant your decree absolute.

The procedure is as follows:

  1. Find a valid ground for divorce to use
  2. File a D8 Divorce petition with the courts
  3. Receive acknowledgment
  4. Apply for a decree nisi
  5. Apply for a decree absolute

The only thing that is different between an online and high street solicitor is the way in which the steps are processed to you.

For example, every company has a slightly different process in how they deal with a divorce. One might use email as their primary source of communication the other may like face-to-face conversations.

Another example is that we provide a 24-hour online case tracker system but another company may rely on email updates to inform you of how your divorce is doing.

This is the same for online and high street solicitors. Due to our services being online based our primary source of communication is by phone, however, a high-street solicitor may prefer to see their client face to face.

This is just a preference of the company itself and does not affect the actual divorce procedure.

Our online divorce process

Many believe that due to online divorce services being a fraction of the price of high street solicitors then there must be a different procedure followed.

This is, of course, untrue; the reason why we are so much cheaper is due to the way we process the divorce steps.

Our divorce process has been refined over many years to ensure that we provide our customers with everything they need and more.

Our divorce process is as follows:
